Milton Township has several positions on boards coming up for appointment this year. We have the following positions open this year Board of Review, Planning Commission, and Salary Compensation. If you are interested in any of these positions, please email the supervisor@miltontwpmi.gov.
Board of Review
The main function of the Board of Review is to assure the details posted to the
assessment roll is correct. One purpose of a Board of Review is to ensure facts can be
heard from the public regarding any detail posted on the assessment roll. The Board can order changes in property value, it can order properties to be exempted or exempted properties to be taxed.
Members of the Board of Review are appointed for a two-year period. Usually at the end of an even year. There is also mandatory state training for members of this board. You must take this training every two years. This training can usually be taken online.
This board meets three times a year in March, July, and December. The July and December meetings are short and only one day. March is another story. There is an organizational meeting the first Tuesday of March, and then the next week we have 3 meetings. Monday, we meet for 6 hours (9:00 AM – 3:00 PM), Tuesday we meet for 6 hours (3:00 PM – 9:00 PM), and then on Wednesday we meet for a few hours starting at 10:00 AM.
To Board of Review consists of three members and one alternate. You must be registered to vote, a resident, and a property taxpayer of township.

Planning Commission
Early in the history of zoning, it was recognized that when reviewing zoning and
land use matters, elected officials needed input from a group of individuals who were
not affected by political concerns. Having a group of interested volunteers judge land use decisions for the community was intended to allow a wide range of views to be fairly represented.
Elected officials are representatives for the people in the community. As such, they are accountable to the voters. As a planning commissioner, on the other hand, you are a representative of the people. This means that the members of the commission represent the various interests found in the community, such as professionals, business owners and homemakers.
In theory, this allows a planning commissioner to act without the political consideration that influences elected officials.
The Planning Commission has regular meetings once a month. They meet the first Tuesday of every month.

Salary Compensation Commission
The commission shall determine the salary of each member of the township board, which shall be effective at the beginning of the next fiscal year. The commission meets during odd years.
The term of office is 5 years. To be eligible for this commission you cannot be an officer or employee of the township or member of the immediate family of an officer or employee.
